A Grifter's Song is Coming in January!

Down and Out Books has announced that the novella series, A Grifter’s Song, is coming in January 2019!

Created and edited by me, this series will consist of six episodes published monthly. Each episode is written to be read in one sitting, much like watching an episode of your favorite Netflix series.

A Grifter’s Song tells the story of  Sam and Rachel, lifelong grifters in their late thirties. Their past is as shadowy as their present, but we know that they pulled a major long con on the mafia in Philadelphia, and now they are on the run. While one or the other may speak longingly of that quiet life in a beach house somewhere at the end of the rainbow, we all know that the likelihood is that they will never leave this life, unless it is in a box. They are who they are, and so they continue to find and exploit marks, trying to stay one step ahead of the mobsters bent on vengeance.

Season One features the following six episodes:

• The Concrete Smile by Frank Zafiro,
• People Like Us by JD Rhoades,
• The Whale by Lawrence Kelter,
• The Movie Makers by Gary Phillips,
• Lost in Middle America by Colin Conway, and
• Losing Streak by Jim Wilsky.

Episode One of A Grifter’s Song (The Concrete Smile by me), will debut digitally in January 2019. The remaining digital episodes of Season One will released monthly after that, February through June. Once the entire season has been digitally released, the episodes will be collected in a pair of trade paperbacks, also to be released in June.

Early readers have been so enthusiastic about the series that a second season has already been commissioned. Here is the line-up of authors for Season Two, which will premiere in 2020 under the same format:

• Eric Beetner,
• Asa Maria Bradley,
• Eryk Pruitt,
• Holly West,
• Scott Eubanks, and
• Frank Zafiro, concluding the series with Down Comes the Night.

All of these episodes will be available individually, but the best deal is to subscribe to the series. For one thing, subscribers automatically receive each new episode as soon as it is released. Subscribers also enjoy a reduced price that equates to getting one of the episodes for free. Lastly, subscribers get bonus content in the form of an exclusive short story taking place between the end of season one and the beginning of season two. This bonus content will not be available outside of the subscription material.

There are two options available to subscribe to this series:

• A print subscription, which entitles you to receive all six digital episodes before their official publication date plus two print copies consisting of Episodes 1-3 and Episodes 4-6 plus the exclusive short story, or

• A digital-only subscription, which entitles you to receive all six episodes before their official publication date plus the exclusive short story.

I’m extremely pumped about this series. It is something I’ve had brewing in my mind for a long time, and initially considered doing all by myself. But instead, I’m thrilled to see Sam and Rachel brought to life by a varied cast of talented writers!
