Happy Birthday Month to….YOU! (and other stuff)

My birthday month of August is over, and with it, 31 days of giving away tons of prizes to all of you.

Yesterday’s winner was…ASA BRADLEY!

Asa voted with the majority in yesterday’s question, which was Which Zafiro book would you like to see released next? The consensus was…the next River City novel (#5, working title: Place of Wrath and Tears).

chisolm debt cover (final)

Coming in September!

So. About that. Well…good news, I think. The next release, coming in September, will be Chisolm’s Debt. As you may know, Chisolm is a major supporting character in the River City series. This novella takes place after he has retired and focuses on some old debts, and why he is the way he is: a guy who thinks he has to save everyone and feels guilty when he fails.

After that, I think the next book you’ll see in pretty short order is the third book that Jim Wilsky and I have collaborated on, and the final one in the series starring Ania (working title:  Closing the Circle). And then? A little harder to say. I’m working on a stand alone crime novel set in Spokane (working title: At Their Own Game) that is maybe 1/3 finished. I’ll finish that, and probably work on some Sam the Hockey Player books…but THEN I will pick up River City #5. The good thing about it is that I’ve already got about half of the first draft finished, and since it will have been a while since I’ve been in the sandbox with all of those characters, it should feel fresh and familiar at the same time.

Projection for a River City #5 release? Maybe by Christmas. More likely, early 2014. But we’ll see how fast I can work now that I’ve retired from police work and am writing full time.

Incidentally, for chiming in and voting with the majority, Asa Bradley won the the audio book version of Blood on Blood, which is in post production right now. It is narrated by the the talented Darren Meekin, a Spokane native who is down in sunny CA, working in “the business.” So while the rest of you should have your prizes shortly, poor Asa will have to wait a little while longer…but I’ve heard Darren’s performance, and it’ll be worth it.

Also incidentally, Queen of Diamonds is also now in production as an audio book, narrated by Johnny Peppers. [Cool name, huh?]. And I’m about to close auditions and choose a narrator for At This Point in My Life. So if you like audio books, you’ll be able to find a lot of Zafiro action in that format.

Back to the original point of the post: Birthday Giveaways. Would all of these winners please stand when your name is called?

For an author, to hear people take to your books and characters like many of you have done is truly gratifying. Thank you.
